Interviewee: Dr. Zhuo Hao Liu
Interviewer: Stefana-Andrada Dobran
The third edition of the Neurotrauma Treatment Simulation Center (NTSC) was held from June 17-20 in Vienna, Austria. This multidisciplinary event focuses on advancing global neurotrauma care through collaboration among specialists from various fields.
In our interview, Dr. Zhuo Hao Liu from Taiwan shared insights on the significant impact of brain injuries in his region, noting that brain injury is rarely an isolated event; patients often face a range of complex challenges that require a comprehensive approach to care. He emphasized the importance of a multidisciplinary neurotrauma team—incorporating neurologists, psychologists, and other specialists in addition to neurosurgeons—to achieve better patient outcomes. Dr. Liu highlighted one of Taiwan’s current limitations: the absence of a dedicated simulation center, which means physicians must gain experience on a case-by-case basis. This, he believes, presents a challenge particularly for young physicians who would benefit greatly from simulated training.
Dr. Liu also discussed country-specific strengths in Taiwan’s neurotrauma care and outlined key components of an effective neurotrauma team. He expressed a strong interest in learning from the NTSC, especially regarding best practices for building a well-coordinated neurotrauma team to optimize patient outcomes.
The NTSC offers participants the tools and insights needed to enhance neurotrauma care, from the pre-hospital phase to rehabilitation, ensuring better patient outcomes globally.
