Certification
a) The Applicant must be a recognised specialist in neurology/psychology/psychiatry or a basic scientist/specialist/expert in his/her country;
b) The Applicant must be a full individual AMN member.
Support from at least one current AMN member/Fellow member
Applicant must provide a letter of recommendation from another member/fellow member of AMN.
Neurosciences/Neurotraumatology/Neurosurgery Interest
Applicants must show that their main/leading interest is directed towards academic practice, teaching, or research in neurosciences/neurotraumatology/neurosurgery.
AMN Membership
Applicants must be neurologists/neuroscientists/neurosurgeons and members of AMN for no less than five (5) consecutive years at the time of the application submission and after the residency end date. The Management Committee may waive the consecutive years' requirement if the candidate's membership has briefly lapsed because of hardship or other exceptional circumstances.
AMN Meeting/Events Attendance
Applicants must have attended the majority (>50%) of AMN Annual EVENTS after becoming a full individual AMN member.
Professional Standing
Applicants must have an overall professional reputation and standing (e.g. awards, invited lectures, board/scientific panel membership of other neurological societies, or other key performance indicators, as determined by the AMN Management Committee) that qualifies the candidate for this distinction.
Special Achievements
Applicants must have demonstrated special achievement in teaching, research, or clinical practice of neurology/neurosurgery/ intensive care and neurorehabilitation and any other specialty related to neurotraumatology (brain recovery, psychiatry, neuropsychology, speech and language therapy, etc.). The candidate’s cumulative body of achievement is considered on a case-by-case basis on the criteria of any or all of the following areas of special achievement:

Significant regional, national, or international service in the area of clinical neurology/ neurotraumatology/ neurosurgery or adjacent fields above and beyond the requirements of the physician’s employment contract or activities which promote neurology or the neurosciences. Significant dedication of time and effort to public education outside practice; practice in an underserved community or for an underserved patient population may constitute a plus, as well as charitable or volunteered medical services inside or outside practice; service to health or medical-related community service organizations; public relations explaining neurology/neurotraumatology/neurosurgery and awards from medical or community organizations/entities and/or state authorities.

Significant contribution to education in neurology and neuroscience, such as:

1) authorship of textbooks and educational articles,

2) regular presentations at national and international levels, and

3) organisation of educational events at pre-/post- graduate or academic level. The candidate is expected to hold a teaching appointment with an associate professor or a comparable status.

Significant contribution to the medical literature. There is no numerical requirement for publications, yet the candidate's body of work should be appropriate for promotion to associate professor in a standard academic setting.

Significant and continuing service to the Academy in a leadership position.


Examples of AMN leadership include but are not limited to service as a member of the Management Committee or an AMN Panel, as a member of the editorial board of indexed medical journals, or as a member of an AMN guideline task force.
