AMN Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Treatment Simulation Centre in Vienna, Austria

The Academy for Multidisciplinary Neurotraumatology (AMN) strives to promote the advancement of neurotraumatology in research, practical application and teaching. Based on this resolved, we are happy to announce that our Management Committee is currently developing a unique educational program for healthcare professionals in the field of neurotraumatology – the Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Treatment Simulation Centre in Vienna, Austria.

Professors Christian Matula (Austria) and Peter Lackner (Germany), together with a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals are developing a week-long training which will focus on simulation and interactive learning - one of the most effective methods for knowledge transfer.

With this endeavour, the AMN is hoping that delegations from all continents will benefit from top-notch insights into the complexity of neurotraumatology in various settings, while also learning how to build strong multidisciplinary teams. Participants will include including neurosurgeons, critical care specialists, neurologist, rehabilitation professionals, and other healthcare professionals.

The ultimate goal of this program is to disseminate the information across local AMN communities.

 The concept for the program is organized around the basic patient pathway for TBI:

Simulation training for acute TBI treatment

Neurosurgery simulation, interactive case discussions

Neurological simulation, interactive case discussions

Early TBI neurorehabilitation

Post-acute and chronic TBI neurorehabilitation


Five hospitals in and around Vienna have agreed to organize and host participants for this program, and are looking forward to receiving the first delegations. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we cannot schedule any courses with a fixed date at this time. We aim to start this program in Fall of 2021. The program curriculum will be described in our next update.
